A section of an inflight magazine. I used my own photography. I remember on the long flight to Beijing how I would wake up mid-flight and just want to zone out but not be bored. I felt other travelers would like something that did not require a lot of attention but was still enough to stimulate. That was the big motivation for the large pages and striking photographs. The reader can spend time looking and be entertained while not requiring too much attention.
The copy for the introduction is written by me and is a bit of my own personal story. However, the name and girl in the photo are not me.
“The Inspiration Of Andre 3000” is an exhibit of the musicians that led to the creative mind of Andre 3000 through music. The posters are used as wayfinding makers through the exhibit as well as to provide information on the artist displayed on the poster. The last 3 posters are examples of a series of 18 x 24 in posters that would be available for sale as patrons exit the exhibit.
I wanted to replicate the d.i.y. style poster with this piece. Since the nature of Gogol Bordello is punk rock or in there own words Gypsy Punk. Gogol Bordello as well as the other bands on the bill are known for an open-minded do it yourself ethic. I wanted to mix the modern and old fashioned way of promoting shows in the underground music scene. As well I wanted to show that am open to getting off the computer to make art. Being resourceful is always important and can lead work in new directions. In this case using only digital means was leaving the work short of hitting the mark.
Sharps is a bar/restaurant in Over The Rhine, Cincinnati. They are right next to Music hall were the Cincinnati Symphony play most concerts. So they wanted to capitalize on that and incorporate music into their brand. The name Sharps refers to the sharp notes in the scale. Etch flavor (A Sharp B Sharp C sharp extra) has the same fundamental label with a short section for a short descriptor of the beer. And a modern minimalist design on the bottle follows the in-vogue style of the downtown area of Cincinnati Ohio.
Sharps is my own idea and rendering form my own concept. There is no physical embodiment of sharps other thin for my own portfolio. I wanted to show my ability for realistic use concept for a brand that did not exist yet.
Fighting Fish: An indie record store in the Downtown area.
Fighting Fish: Gym that specializes in boxing methodology. The idea is that the gym would be more fun and inclusive then demanding and authoritative. So I used a fish for not only the play on words but to be fun and open-minded.
Donut Reactor: A playful and fun doughnut shop were the doughnuts explode with flavor.
GOLDHAMMER: A logo for a hardware store that wants to show itself as a modern boutique style hardware store. This store is in the downtown area that attracts a younger demographic.

Flying Foxes, Everything Else Is Out There:
Flying Foxes are an indie surf goth band from Pacifica, California, just south of San Francisco. The album “Everything Else Is Out There” is their first full-length album. The overarching theme in this album is fighting boredom and depression. It encourages people to leave their comfort zone, take time to see all the beautiful things in the world, and understand the different ways people can interpret their observations. The band wanted to keep the darker “goth” pathos, while showing a representation of the barrier between how things can be interpreted and the beauty of the world around them. I used a photograph I took in the San Francisco Bay, made an almost fence-like structure, and placed it in front of the beautiful sunset behind a tree over the Pacific Ocean.

The Best of Sam Cooke is a collection of the music of Sam Cooke. This album cover shows the smooth and retro sound of Cooke, while displaying a very intimate feeling the listener will get from the music.
